Diane nasceu em Hartford, Connecticut, no dia 10/agosto/1952. Tem uma filha, Madzia, de 18 anos. Divorciada.
Estudou na Escola de Arte Dramatica Juilliard e no Conservário Musical de Boston.
Apareceu em teatro fazendo a Princesa da Dinamarca, em Hamlet, no Festival de Shakespeare de Nova York, em 83.
Estreou no cinema no ano de 79, fazendo uma ponta no musical de Bob Fosse All that Jazz.
Seu papel mais importante foi o de Chan Parker, esposa do saxofonista Charlie Parker, no filme Bird, do diretor Clint Eastwood.
Teve importante papel no filme Fogo Contra Fogo (Heat), como esposa do policial Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) , tendo ainda contracenado com Jack Nicholson (Ironweed) e Tom Beremger (The Substitute). Recentemente estrelou o remake do filme "Dia do Chacal" .
